I keep saying I'm going to tell about actual school....and I figured now that the semester's practically over would be a good time (:
Besides that, I'm sitting in the airport about to go HOMEEEE...but I have to wait another two-ish hours :)
So here we goooo :)
I'm taking 6 classes at a total of 16 credits this semester. Let me walk you through my schedule...
MONDAY/WEDNESDAY/FRIDAY :)))
I roll out of bed at 9:20, throw on a jacket and join Janel, Lydia, and Shelby for breakfast. Seeing as I get more tired every morning, Shelby normally comes and knocks on my door, loudly I might add, and wakes me up. Afterwards, I come back to the dorms until 10:45, when I leave for my first class.
MUSIC 101 :))
This is probably my favorite class, because it is very low key. It's held in the Madison Recital Hall so it's a huge class. Katie Schurtz saves me a seat everyday. :)
BIO 100 :P
From then, I walk across campus and down four flights of steep stairs to the RB for Bio. I have that class with Whitney. I hate the subject but it's actually a fun class because our professor is crazy!
WRTG 150
I walk right back up those 4 flights of stairs (ughh!) to Writing. I love writing, because it's my only small class and I know everyone in there.
After class I meet Shelby for a "quick" lunch in the Cannon before going back to "study" before my favorite class.
MUSIC 117 aka GUITARRR!
Bro. Green is legit and plain cool, besides being an awesome guitarist! Alyssa Adair is in my class and it's soooo cool to have like 60 kids playing guitar in one room! I only have guitar on M/W which is too bad but my day ends 5 p.m.
TUESDAY/THURSDAY :)))
HISTORY 201
I have my favorite hard class at 9:30 that goes until 10:45. My professor is awesome. It's complete lecture, not like copy down the power point slides--copy down every word he says! We always have these awesome political discussions that somehow always relate to the Church as well!
After that I go straight to Devotional or back to my dorm.
Whitney and I always go to lunch together and afterwards, I have my last class.
RELIGION 121
Book of Mormon with Brother Griffin. So spiritual, so uplifting, so enlightening. My friend from my ward Jared and I sit together and it's the best class ever.
Well, those are my classes...and they are great (:

Lessons Learned
I think the Carrie Underwood song is appropriate song of my life for the past week or so.
Not only do I love her as a country music artist, but her lyrics really ring true to my heart this week.
"And every tear that had to fall from my eyes Everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night, Every change, life has thrown me...Some pages turned Some bridges burned
But there were lessons learned."
I have to go to a total of 11 concerts for my two music classes....yummy. So I saw that there was a Folk Music Ensemble concert tonight that would count for my guitar class.
Not only do I love her as a country music artist, but her lyrics really ring true to my heart this week.
"And every tear that had to fall from my eyes Everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night, Every change, life has thrown me...Some pages turned Some bridges burned
But there were lessons learned."
I learned A LOT today. Not only about myself but about life, politics, history, science, and most importantly...BYU.
I'm convinced this is the best college EVER and I know for a fact that it's where I'm suppose to be, where I fit in, and that is a great feeling.
Take today for instance. In my history 201 class, we've been talking about how climate affected ancient civilizations. We talked about how climate is continuing to change like it did in the Medieval Era. I was struck by the book we read, and how he talked that my generation and my children's generation are going to suffer we don't do anything. I had one of those "I'm gonna change the world!" feelings when I left, which aren't very practical. Still, I was kind of affected by the class and kept thinking about it.
Then, Whitney and I decided to go to this lecture for extra credit for Bio. I know, gross. But I need it....haha. So I went with the attitude of this is going to be REALLY boring.
Surprise!!!! It was the COOLEST thing ever! The lead scientist in conservation, Dr. M. Sanjayan came and spoke. He talked about almost the same thing that we discussed in History class. His main point was that conservation could play a big role in providing a helping hand because nature has value. However, at the end, he said this--"There are seven billion people on the planet, and for the most part, life is good. However, this good life is coming at a big cost, which your generation and your children's generation will have to pay to see the best in life."
WOW. Again, I was sitting there thinking, I need to go tell the world that we need to change or I'm gonna have to pay!!!
Just my own opinions of course (it's my blog right??? haha) and tonight, I'm sitting here doing the same thing as every other night, Facebooking, blogging, listening to music and having a good time with friends, so obviously I wasn't thaaat effected.
But I learned of these awesome lectures that BYU has ALL the time! I have a new goal to go to more lectures, just because!
So then....I learned something about the HFAC....they have SUPER COOL CONCERTS!

Best. Spontaneous. Decision. Ever.
The concert was soooo legit, like a mix of international/folk/country music and it was so neat! Half the songs were originals and the lead vocalists for the last two bands was the same girl and she was AMAZING. I had serious chills.
So, new goal? Go to more concerts, even if they don't count for a grade!
BYU is sooo cool, there is always something going on, and I love life this week (and especially today :).
Goodnight world! :)

An EXTRA SPECIAL Devotional
Yesterday, I was sitting in my dorm room a little longer than normal because my 11 AM class was canceled. At around 11:20, everyone in our hall started screaming in the hallway. Whitney went out and ran back in the room screaming,
"PRESIDENT MONSON IS SPEAKING AT THE DEVOTIONAL TOMORROW."
Man, just typing that gives me chills.
President Monson is the latter-day prophet of our church. For him to come to BYU to speak is a HUGE deal.
I didn't see them nor did I get pictures...but apparently kids brought out tents and slept overnight outside the Mariott Center (the basketball stadium where we have these campus wide devotionals). Kids I know went and stood out in the RAIN for four hours this morning to get a seat up close.
Sadly, I have class in the morning up to devotional time so my friends Janel and Jonathon went as early as they could to get us seats and we were in the top corner of the stadium! Craziness!
My history professor was hilarious this morning in class. He's quite the sarcastic guy and yesterday in our class's Facebook page (weird how useful technology is!) a freshman girl posted that he should cancel class tomorrow because no one would want to go to class because we'd be late to devotional (class ends at 10:45, devotionals start across campus at 11:05) and most likely not get a seat. So at like 10:20 during class, Prof. Dursteler goes "Rumor has it that some of you are worried about getting to devotional...and apparently this one is pretty important...I mean I don't think the Prophet of God is more important than my class and we all know what he's going to say!" The class muttered "Get married!" He goes, "Well....that's not what I was thinking...but I guess marriage is more important than my class, get out of here!"
I decided to walk with my Sunday Playlist on my iPod to set the tone. I'm sooo glad I did. I arrived with tons of time to spare but the Mariott Center was already PACKED. Students had started sitting behind the podium because everywhere else was full!
When Pres. Monson walked in, we all stood up and a hush fell over us. The Spirit was instantly strong and I had chills. He is quite the character and waved at us all to sit down, laughing to himself. M. Russel Nelson and his daughter also accompanied him.
And of course, when he stood up, what was the first thing he talked about? Marriage!!! He set off with a funny story about giving devotionals and how one girl thought he wasn't married because he can no longer where rings!
His message was on being an example to the believers, which here at BYU is interesting, as majority of us are obviously members. However, reflecting back on his words, I think his message is powerful and needed throughout the church today. He told of a missionary who needed surgery while on his mission in Canada and was sharing a room with 5 other men. On the morning of this missionary's surgery, all 5 roommates refused breakfast, explaining to the nurse that this missionary had taught them of God and the gospel of Christ, and they were fasting for his surgery to go well. The doctor explained as well that he would not cost him a fee because "someone on high" had performed the surgery.
He concluded with a quote from the Lion King, saying "Look inside yourself. You are more than what you've become." "Remember that you are a son and daughter of God."
It was by far the best devotional of the year and it was so neat to be in the same room as the prophet of God. During the closing prayer, I received a witness of the Holy Ghost that Thomas S. Monson is the true prophet on the earth today. I'm grateful to go to such a beautiful, spiritual, amazing university.

Birthday Weekenddd!
My Wednesday of this last week was a crazy day because I was trying to get everything done before Thursday!!!!! I took my Book of Mormon midterm (which, for those of you wondering, it is SO weird to have tests on the Book of Mormon!?), had a history book to read, and meeting with my peer mentor (which I am happy to report, I will NOT be taking American Heritage as it does not benefit my major! YIPPIE!).
We had decided though that during open hours, some of the boys would come over to our room. I bought food (to lure them over ;) and Cortney, Devin, Brian, and Isaac joined Shelby, Whitney, Emily, Lydia, and I for most of Batman Begins. After 9, we had a homework party until 11:45, when Janel, Elise, Emily, Whitney, Shelby, Lydia, and I walked out to the tunnel by the Tanner Bldg and they sang Happy Birthday to me at midnight!
That night we had decided to go to the soccer game but most of our guy friends went swimming. We only stayed for part of the game and then that night Lydia, Whitney and I watched Psych. In the middle of the episode, she randomly went over and opened up my window. When I looked outside, Devin (on his saxophone), Cortney, Isaac, Brian, Ian and JJ from our ward were outside and started to sing to me! It was SO awesome and totally made my night :) I wish I had pics/a video but it was dark....funny side note though, girls on other floors opened up their windows as well! haha!
The next morning, we all (except Shelby and Whitney) slept in till 11 (isn't college the LIFE!?). I had to rush to get ready for the game at one! The football team must have known it was my birthday weekend because...our seats were ROW TWO! It was AWESOME. Sooo much fun and PEARLY came with us as well as the normal crew! :) We won 55-3....and it still a fun game without the competition!
Thanks for the birthday wishes!!!
Hugs and kisses,
Megan :)

Oct. 7-8
What a few crazy weeks. I have a ton to catch up and I realized that I never touch on my classes, so I should say a little more about thaaat, seeing as this is college and all.
But first. Let's catch up on the social aspect :)
So on that Friday, I finally went to the temple for the first time up here! It was crazy and so different than back home. We walked over and it was raining, lucky us. But it was still kinda fun, just different. There were TONS of people so we were only able to do 3 names for confirmations and 3 for baptisms. The Provo Temple keeps everyone on a tight orderly schedule, which was different as well. But it was just nice to finally be in the temple and have time to ponder.
After the temple and dinner, we had decided to do the one thing on campus that none of us had done--bowling! I was talking to my friend Cortney and he and I decided that we needed to get off campus more. So my group of 6 girls told like 3 boys to get people together to go bowling and then start making off campus trips. We ended up meeting a huge group of boys from our ward! Basically, our friends had gotten all of their friends in their dorms and we girls were outnumbered. We first walked down to this old fashioned malt place and BOY was it good!? As we were walking back, everyone decided that we didn't want to go bowling (well the majority--I still did!) so we decided to go in the Tanner Building and watch "How to Train your Dragon." After the movie, we played Sardines. After the first round, Whitney hadn't found the first group hiding, so we were like well now everyone go find Whitney! Turns out, the boys (Cortney, Tanner, and Swanson) pulled a fast one on us and took Whitney out of the building!!! We couldn't find any of them and they finally told us they left! After that, we messed around outside for awhile (our friend Zack decided he was going to videotape EVERYTHING, and he did! even at the beginning of this crazy adventure!) but it got too cold to bear. So we went into May Hall because we realized the lobby wasn't closed yet. We ended the night by some of the guys walking us back to Chipman. We were up WAY late. But it was such a crazy fun night!
Saturday was the homecoming football game!! Grandma and Grandpa were up for homecoming and they picked me up that night for Kevin's birthday dinner at Los Hermanos! Another trip off campus, woo! It was some seriously good Mexican food :)
Afterwards, we bundled up for the football game, starting at EIGHT at night. Freezing. Actually, okay, it wasn't thaaat cold. We started by sitting with our friends from our ward but then went to check out our seats. It was only a few of us in the sports pass group, Sarah, Alyssa, Charlotte, Whitney and I. So at halftime, we went back to our ward friends' spot. We squished in with them and it was way fun! The game, however, got boring cause we were winning so everyone turned their tickets into paper airplanes and tried to get them onto the field, in the end zone. It. was. so. funny! Afterwards, Cortney suggested we go to Denny's. So half of us went to get a table and the other half had to go back to the dorms. When the first group got there, they received word that more people were coming! So when the other like 8 people showed up, there was a huge line....and they didn't get seated until after our first group was done eating...so we decided to eat AGAIN! We ended up staying at Denny's until 2 AM and finally went back and got to sleep by like 3-ish.
Oh, the college life is for me :)

Craziest but Best Week of College (Thus Far :)
Yupp. The title says it all. It was one CRAZY week and I don't really know where to begin.
Well, let's being with Monday :) On Monday I got a surprise visit from Kerri, D.C., Katie, and Adele! They came up and saw my dorm room (which was slightly clean for once haha) and then walked me to my first class! We got lots of "Awww's" on our walk but it was way better than walking by myself and my iPod!
After some "studying" took place, Lydia, Shelby, and Devin were having yet another study party outside (because it was after 12 AM and Devin could no longer be in the lobby haha) so I went and joined them. It felt nice to be with good friends and just smile and act crazy till 2 AM....yupp, college is great.
Wednesday is open door hours, so craziness always goes down. Shelby's computer was (and still is) dead so we (the normal group of girls) took it over to Cortney the technology master who said he could fix it. Unfortunately it has like 394083 viruses or something like that but all of us girls brought out our homework and got some of the guys to study with us! Towards the end of open hours, the guys showed us this video game "Amnesia" which is basically a zombie video game that freaks them all out. It was hilarious--not gonna lie. Definitely needed those laughs from the fun guys in our ward. :)
Thursday was crazy cold. October brought COLD weather--and I'm not talking CA cold! I'm talking SNOW ON THE MOUNTAINS. It was crazy. And cold. Very cold. I layered up and got made fun of but it was COLD. No one studied on campus because it was raining so everyone was inside (unlike normal, when everyone sleeps, studies, cuddles, etcs. on campus). Campus looked deserted, it was really odd. But the best surprise of all....I walked out of my Book of Mormon class at 2....and IT WAS SNOWING!!!
Okay, not really, more like freezing rain, or sleet, or ice, or something but it wasn't just rain! And it all of the sudden turned freezing!?! Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa came and took Whitney and I to Brick Oven Pizza, so it was quite warm! It was great to see them as well!
Well, because we're crazy kids, we decided to go to the soccer game that night....BAD DECISION. It was sooooooooo cold and the seats were wet....but it was actually still fun! We left at half time and instead decided to go have another study party in the boy's dorm...which meant no one got anything done!! I went to bed "early" that night....like midnight...haha :) Did I mention I love college??
Well.....this past weekend was GREAT....but I think that'll be another post. It's now midnight and Whitney's been asleep for awhile....and I should follow her example :)
Night!

Monday night is FHE, and this week we decided to combine with another family for another round of Missionary Tag! It was a huge game in a light rain on muddy grass by the library. So. much. fun!! I don't understand why that game is so enjoyable, but alas it is! After FHE, Lydia, Shelby and I had a study party in her room which turned into a Skype party with some of the boys in our ward! It started out with just Cortney and slowly turned into a room full of guys, being random and cracking us up!

General Conference Weekend!!
Another crazy week for me, so I'm late blogging about the past weekend!
Conference was great and dramatically changed my life for the better. I had a change of heart, revisited priorities, and am back on track!
But General Conference was such a different experience at school than home. For the Saturday morning session, a group of 6 girls from our floor came in the basement and were joined by 3 other girls from Chipman. The best part of the morning session was when President Monson's talk. When he announced the *second* Provo Temple, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. The Spirit was so strong in the dingy basement room and it definitely strengthen my testimony of temples.
For the afternoon session, we watched in the lobby. We were forced to pay real close attention because the vending machines were soooo loud! I turned into a really good lip reader!
After the priesthood session, our group of 6 girls (Katie, Emily, Whitney, Shelby, Lydia and I) got a group of boys together and went in the Tanner Building (a huge 7 floor building near the dorms). Emily rented the movie R.E.D. and we messed around in the one of the classrooms watching that. We started Forever Strong but got kicked out at 11:45. But, being college and all, instead of going back to the dorms to sleep, a plan was formed to play a game of rugby....IN THE SPRINKLERS. Which turned into just messing around in the sprinklers and getting soaking wet at midnight!...which turned into missionary tag on the muddy slippery grass! Best. idea. ever!! Instead of directly linking arms, you would practically run into them and hope to grab their arm or hand to avoid slipping! We finally ended around 1:30 AM when Jonathan had fallen one too many times. It was seriously one of the best nights yet!!
When I got back, I went over to the boy's dorm for visiting hours where we watched the Best Two Years in their basement- which was fun as well as a "spiritual end" to the conference weekend!!!

Me and Lucy! We watched the Sunday morning session in the basement with our "new" group of friends. After, we had lunch all together in the Cannon. I left midway and watched the last session with Kevin and Julia! It was a lot of fun and odd to be around little kids again. But I was nice to be off campus and having a home cooked meal!? |

Best. Game. Yet.
I can’t even begin to tell you the emotions that ran through my mind last night at the game. Okay, that sounds cheesy….but honestly. The game last night was INSANE! One of my friends from California was watching the game and keep laughing at our….great QB. Seriously. As many as you probably know our offense isn't the best this year. No one can complete a pass or catch the ball and don’t get me started about fumbling. (I’m a college student now so I actually get football J)
So…last night’s game…I was really tired for some reason. The game was not very crowded and it was only Whitney, Alyssa, Sarah, Abel and I, with Emily crashing our seats. Towards the end of the third quarter, Whitney and I considered leaving because we were losing. We said that if Utah State scored another touchdown, we’d leave. The game continued to go back and forth…Utah State getting to a fourth down and then BYU quickly messing up to give the ball back to Utah State.
All of the sudden it was like three minutes left and we had the ball, first down. We were ALL the way at the like 90-something yardline. I was texting my friend Steven from back home and he was like it’s not impossible but it’s not probable. We all didn’t think it was going to happen seeing as our team kept making dumb errors (such as not catching the ball in the endzone TWICE!). The fans made everyone be quick by waving their arms like birds—started by Cosmo. The stands were silent, everyone standing up. No one wanted to breathe. The anticipation was intense and the fear of losing was growing when we were SO close. Our team practically walked the ball down the field, continuing to gain yards and more first downs. With every first down, the crowds erupted but quickly got silent afterwards to give the players concentration. We chanted to throw back in Riley (instead of Jake Heaps…LOL!) and I don’t know if they did (I’m not very good with the names of the players yet…. except for Jake Heaps because everyone yells at him during the game when he messes up! L). Suddenly…we were SO close to the end zone and our QB threw it to a receiver….a Utah player got his fingers on it…tipped it into the arms of a BYU PLAYER!!!!! THE STANDS ERUPTED. We didn’t even know if it was considered a touchdown yet!!!!! Our little group was gathered by Abel in a big bear hug!!! We were screaming—and I mean screaming. I didn’t even know what to do!! My legs were shaking, my lungs were screaming, my voice was hurting, and I was getting hugs from random people! Thirty seconds left. No one thought it would happen. In fact, Steven had texting me saying it’s over-you lost. And THEN the touchdown happened and he sent me…lol jk…!!!!!! Our team kicked the field goal. 27-24. 11 seconds left and we kicked it off. This guy sitting behind us was from Utah State and was like I believe! It can happen! We were like YEAH RIGHT. Needless to say….
We jumped over the railing and run onto the field, still screaming. We ran over to the circle set up by the football players. A player on the team was being lifted into the air (I’m assuming whoever made that amazing play!!) and people were on others shoulders, just trying to see what was going on. We started chanting BYU BYU BYU. It got nasty and hot down there fast but we were just so caught up in the excitement. Even typing this I’m getting chills thinking about the feelings I felt!!!!! Then we tried to get out of there….took forever but was SO worth it!!!! We walked back in the streets to the dorm and went in screaming and yelling! Everyone came out (thinking we were others making noise) and were shocked to see Emily Whitney and I yelling. We celebrated at the creamery. There was loud music going on and one group of kids had a random dance party with an amp! BYU partied haaaard….just kidding! We watched a movie as celebration. It was crazy. My voice is gonnne. But the game was just so worth it! I love BYU FOOTBALL…when it’s amazing like that! J
The best part about the games is definitely the atmosphere. Sure, it’s fun to watch the game on TV but being there is so much fun! My sports pass group includes Whitney, Alyssa Adair, Sarah Freeman (a girl from Virginia who added to our group randomly), Charlotte Reinerger and her roommate, Blythe and Sarah Spendlove, and then two boys Abel and Alex (who I haven’t met). The cool thing though is my dorm floor slaves come crash and join our spot! The first game Lydia, Janel (a girl on our floor who doesn’t have a roommate but is lots of fun to hang out with!), and Emily crashed and there was hardly any room! For the second game (after suffering the whole lost), Shelby got a ticket from Alyssa and came to the game!! No one came to that game which was too bad cause it was another amazing win with the 93 yrd kick off return touchdown! I definitely lost my voice and the following day my throat hurt like crazy!?

Emily, Abel, Sarah, Me, Alyssa, and Whitney! |

Goooooo Cougars!
WOW.
Life has been crazy good here at school! I've been an avid Facebook-er but I decided (thanks to Kacy Morris's example) that a blog would be just as fun.
Sooo.....a brief summary of the past five weeks.....
Just kidding. Like that's possible. Well, it is possible....but as an oh so busy college student I don't think I have time to recap everything that has gone on. So here and there, when things don't add up that I'm talking about, I'll just have to add some background information. :)
First of all, college life is amazing. Everyone always said college was the time of their life--THEY WERE RIGHT. I have this quote up above my desk that says "High school is high school, but it's not until you get out of high school that you realize it's just a stepping stone in life." True. That.
I have an amazing roommate named Whitney Petersen, who just happened to be my BFF in Preschool until she moved away to San Diego. Over the years, we were pen pals, then email buddies, then Facebook-ers, and now ROOMIES! :) It's been a month and we have both adjusted well to the lovely living arrangements of dorm life--for instant, the loud noises heard at 1 AM, screams included, the want to stay up all night long and the alarm clocks yelling for us to get up. Whitney has early class, so every morning she is awesome at staying quiet while I put my covers over my head and go back to sleep! I have class starting at 11 M/W/F and 9:30 T/TH while she has 8 AM classes. But it's not a big deal...I just always have crazy weird dreams after she leaves!!!
The awesome thing about already knowing your roommate and being good friends with her is the new circle of friends created at college is centered around an already stronger friendship!!....if that made any sense! Whitney and I quickly became great friends with Shelby Patterson (who heard us being loud one night and just walked into our room! We're been inseparable ever sense! And she still continues to come over unannounced!), Emily Webb (who I sorta of knew of because Emily's dad and my dad went to college together!), and Lydia Brewer (who we met at the NSO dance and connected through the hot sweatiness language of DANCING!). The five of us have sooo much fun together, whether it's eating meals, staying up late, having leaf scavenger hunts, watching movies, boy talk, people watching, planking, and any other mess we can get ourselves into!!!
Meanwhile....my ward is awesome! We're all still in that awkward stage where we don't know everyone's names..but we have a relief society presidency and I'm happy to say that I am NOT in it! :) So far, I don't have a calling (knock on ward) and I like it that way!
The other unique thing about BYU is our FHE groups. Luckily for me, my bestie Shelby Patterson is in it with me! (our ward didn't go by roommates). At first....we were a dysfunctional "family" without parents but Shelby and this boy Wade took over. We've had some fun nights--playing "Whack the Cracker" and "Touch Football". Overall, we've got a good family with some really neat people in it!
And the classes?? Well......I'd tell you about them....but look at the time! I've already spent tons of time talking about college--I better go study!!
Especially because there's ANOTHER football game tonight!!!!! So until then....
GO COUGARS....and RISE UPPP! :)
